But, hmm, they still seem to be in the trash. You did move then back into the forum, didn't you? [added: I re-read and seems I misunderstood your action (or lack thereof).] . . @ PDB - Good point, except for this -- complaints are, well, "complaints"; and no complaints are ... "no complaints". (In that case, let the scoreboard call the game.)
avatar
I'd also like to point out that decision concerning Koopa was not made in a vacuum of admin/mod groupthink. It was done after complaints from members.
avatar
That's exactly what I did, he has one active topic on the forum
avatar
Actually I think it would be a good idea to tell Koopa to put all his project ideas and discussion in one thread and that would keep everyone happy.
avatar
Also, on a site note: I have the opinion, that your "1984"-similie is quite wrongly placed, for more than one reason.
avatar
Just to give a second "not Mod/Admin"-Opinion on that Topic: I am with the Mod/Admin decision on that topic. Nothing against people with good ideas, but somehow a certain flood of threads felt more like "spamming" with sometimes ridiculous unrealistic project "dreams"/wishes.
avatar
Everyone interested in reading Koopa's threads can still access them. I moved those threads out of respect for work of people who actually do something instead of just spamming the forum with 30 "idea" threads obscuring valuable discussion
avatar
Ouch, that post was alittle harsh, even if it was over 6 months ago. I don't know ... ideas for projects, even if not completed, are still a valuable resource at forums. And in other threads, Koopa Luath was doing the indepth research and resource gathering needed. Not just for himself, for anyone with the same interests. But that is little excuse to "clean house" and dump all his work in the trash -- especially as it doesn't seem to be used for (offline?) archiving. That is a clear insult to Koopa Luath and to everyone else here. It cries out for a policy change (if there is such a policy). Even OT, with all it's serious faults, doesn't play at being a 1984-style un-poster forum. I would suggest that Koopa Luath threads be returned to their rightful places at FanRes -- if not for deceny's sake, then for respect of our work, sweat, and tears to produce such for this forum.
avatar
avatar
Whoa ... just noticed that almost all of Koopa Luath inqueries/projects are in the "Recycle bin" -- 2 full pages of topics. What happened here? Any way to get them back into their areas? And what happened to all the previous topics (non-Koopa Luath) that were there but are no longer there? Truly deleted? (I thought Recycle bin was some sort of "offline archive" to free up space in the live area? Recycle bin: "A place for threads that normally would be deleted, but which may contain proper discussion here and there"

moonwalker ... it sounds to me that you expect this forum to act like a torrent site when it is not. Reading the rules/faq when signing up here would probably had helped clarify that. Secondly, most if not all online forums, act the same. To view their content, like ours, you have to sign up to gain access. Sadly, you are not the first new member of late, who seems to think this is some sort of dowlonad hub. Please contact admin or mods to get clarification on the protocols for this site and it's mission. Thanks.

i click on a movie link , and then it takes me to hdbits.org asking for user name PW and 2 step passcode , whats this and how do i get into that site .thnx
avatar
new here , love open matte versions. but i am having a little trouble working out this forum
avatar
hi all .
avatar
So breaking words or punctuation is an intended change? Weird for sure. LOL
avatar
It's an intended change by the plugin author
avatar
@ Feallan -- Something I noticed at about the time of your update: the Shoutbox wrap has become a dumb character count, which breaks words or breaks punctuation off it's preceding word.
avatar
YES! ANALOG is the future! But if you thought that flipping a laserdisc for the rest of the movie was a pain, try changing a stack of vinyl discs (how many seconds for a 70mm resolution movie?). By the time you get up, get the next disc, remove the previous disc, load in the new disc, and sit back down, it's time to get up for the next disc.

@deadliner, I concur with my fellow members ... The edits/restorations are only done/supported by a small group of the mainstream population really. Most don't get or understand the reason why they might be needed or wanted to be done. Risk is a big issue considering the source materials used, the private work and money that goes in to them, and they are NOT for sale by anyone associated with these projects. We are a very protective group with good reason to be so elusive.
avatar
Also, edits and restores tended to have a lot of money and time sunk into getting them done, so sometimes some people might only share it within their group for the first while I am guessing.
avatar
@deadliner. Maybe because people are taking a risk by releasing an edit/restoration, that and not all sites will allow these kinds of projects. Just the way it is i suppose.
avatar
Why are edits & restorations so difficult to get a hold of? A person can get practically any theatrical version extremely easily if they want to. But edits and restores? Nope. Near impossible to find them.
avatar
Thanks! From my very first link to them ... I FOUND A BUG! -- "Error 520 Web server is returning an unknown error" -- Am I good or what? Big Grin (Excuse me while I do my titan-victory-dance . . https://media1.tenor.com/images/d89ba4e9.../tenor.gif )

New MyBB releases https://blog.mybb.com/
avatar
@ Feallan -- Are these updates local-fix or software-release updates? Is there a list of "improvements/fixes" for us to peruse and test? I like to stomp on things, like Argonauts ... but software code will do as well. Big Grin
avatar
Thanks Feallan

Updated all plugins we use (except the mobile theme), let me know if you find any problems

Updated the forum
avatar
Lossless? No unless you want the resulting file to be PCM. You can use MKV container flags to change the playback speed of the audio losslessly, but the playback speed flags are not reccomended to be used for audio.
avatar
Hey guys. Is it possible to losslessly convert a PAL/25fps AC3 audio file to NTSC/24fps speed?
avatar
@FrankT watch video instead of ask questions. It's possible to use Google unlimited space cloud storage for $50 per month and backup at least a full PB of data (they bought two extra accounts so they could transfer more bandwidth at once hence $70/m). Yes they have that much data and yes they need it backed up.
avatar
Thanks......
avatar
Bharath ... I don't know what your first language is so maybe I'm not understanding you but nobody downloads movies from this site because it is a preservation forum, not a torrent site. There are sites where the projects from here are hosted but most of them probably require membership to access the downloads. None of the projects done here are stored here for members to access with the click of a button. Any further questions you have should be directed to admin or mods. A quick read of the rules may also help answer some questions you may have. Please have a good day.
avatar
Jetrell Fo....I didnt Get you,,,,how to get movies from this site
avatar
Bharath15 ... there are no movies to download from this site ... you would need to be a member of other sites that support and allow the share these fan projects.
avatar
how to download movies on this site ??
avatar
Oh, well it should be perfect for you.
avatar
I need another 120TB actually, just to store scans that are waiting to be done.
avatar
Add another zero to that Wink
avatar
What's that, like... 100TB? Does anyone even need that much disk space?
avatar
Petabyte
avatar
PB? Is that a new thing?

Well, I'm going back to paper-punch cards ... Shocked
avatar
I have over 30 seagates here, have had one failure. I've lost 4 WD Black drives in the past 3 months. It is totally patchy and very model dependent.
avatar
That may be true now, but in the last 5 years I've had really high failure rates with the Seagates I used to buy.
avatar
All drives have a percentage of failures. They are all pretty much the same now.
avatar
Newegg too! (Hmm ... orchestrated sales? Maybe TOO good to be true: Newegg.com - 5star 40%, 1star 27% - "Pros: Price. Cheaper than the internal desktop drive. || Cons: Failed after a few months. None of my partition software on windows or linux would even recognize it. || Other Thoughts: Can't warranty it because sensitive information is stored on it.")

8TB drives, $140 today

@poita - mkv works fine for me without transcoding to stream to my 2011 Samsung TV using Serviio. But my TV is unable to play IDX/SUB format subtitles and they must be OCR converted to .srt if I want to play them. Another thing is that I can't stand NTSC judder so I would usually IVTC a NTSC disc to 23.976p first.
avatar
I tried plex at one point and found it's transcode quality to be suspect. Does it really require mp4? That's less versatile than google drive. I use oshare as my dlna server. It doesn't transcode anything, but as long as your device can play the file, it works extremely well.
avatar
I personally store everything in MKV but it does require a demux before streaming when using plex for example.
avatar
I think mkv is a much more forgiving container format. It can accept basically any audio or video format. mp4 is much more restricted, especially for audio. Neither will allow you to retain menus though. Truthfully, the best format will depend on your playback device to a great degree.
avatar
I would say mp4 container with x264 and aac-lc for video and audio options. Seems to be the most universally accepted container/codec option for streaming without transcoding.
avatar
I have redfox AnyHDDVD
avatar
Just on that. With a home server setup, what is the best format to rip discs into and keep everything to be able to be played back on a media server. I like to keep all the menus and commentary etc. but I hate having to go looking for the disc.
avatar
@NeonBible you can use DVD43 if you just want to "transparently" remove CSS and copy the files directly, or to use with DVDShrink. I wouldn't really suggest DVDShrink though, just buy a spindle of Verbatim DVD-R DLs. They cost more than twice the price of DVD-Rs but they're still cheap anyway. And as @zoidberg suggests you can backup the disc files using MakeMKV without losing disc structure.
avatar
MakeMKV can backup entire discs (including folders etc.). Just select 'backup'
avatar
With DVDshrink you'd need something like RedFox AnyDVD to remove it, but it seems alot of people use MakeMKV nowadays.
avatar
Thanks @Valeyar @DoomBot I managed to use MakeMKV to backup my DVD. Drops the menus and stuff of course, but thats ok (probably regret that later). DVDShrink couldn't get past copy protection.
avatar
Yes ... so say we all!
avatar
You're welcome, Doombot Smile
avatar
@ Jetrell Fo -- check your PM / email
avatar
Yes as long as you cut at an i-frame. You can use ffmpeg to do the cut, use the paramater "-vcodec copy" and it will force a cut on an i-frame.
avatar
Is it possible to delete a section of a .264 encode without re-encoding? I accidentally left in a few seconds of black frames in the video before encoding.
avatar
@NeonBible- http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ will work but is old and no longer deeloped, http://makemkv.com/ is an updated program that can also rip dvd. With makemkv you get the free license key here- http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053
avatar
Thanks for keeping this place running smooth Feallan Ok
avatar
@ NeonBible You can use https://www.videohelp.com/software/DVD-Shrink but if it has encryption then you need to remove that first. Oh and just because it says dvd-shink, you don't have to compress it, just turn that part off.
avatar
Updated the forum to MyBB 1.8.18
avatar
Hey all. Whats the best (and free) way today to rip a DVD to a video_ts? Searching google just brings up a bunch of dodgy looking software. Have a DVD which looks to be rotting so need to backup.
avatar
avatar
Cool to see that! There were glimpses of the alternate/cut footage in the documentary that aired on the Disney Channel back then. Pity the only time a 70mm print turned up on ebay the seller wanted like 30K for it.

I'd love to say yes to that, poita. But, unless I upgrade my CPU, a 1080 would just bottleneck my system.
