Charlie Rose just made the last episodes of his PBS shows, as a direct result of the Great Hollywood Sex Scandal of 2017.

December's going to be an expensive month for Christopher Nolan fans

True story... my good friend asked if I would "boycott" VIII with him... I laughed at him and said I'm not boycotting it, I'm just not going to watch it! Big Grin

That's cool Rob.

avatar
Yep, it's a major release and a HUGE improvement over the previous version. I've already noticed the difference.
avatar
Ive updated. Thanks for the heads up.
avatar
Seems to work okay. Not sure I like that moving dot thingy in tabs. It's like a Cylon eye looking at me. Wink
avatar
Okay, I'll take the plunge. Thanks for the info guys! Smile
avatar
I just updated to Quantum yesterday and I really love it. Very smooth page transitions, youtube is responding far better, it's worth the update.
avatar
yep
avatar
So it installs over the old browser then?
avatar
No not a seperate install, just got the new Quantum and everythign works great so far.
avatar
Dumb question. Is the new mozilla a separate install? Current version I have installed constantly freezes up using ebay and facebook these days.
avatar
Thanks for the link Valeyard. It's a pretty nice improvement!

OK, I'm stumped on one of the typefaces used for the redone titles for the 1968 Italian rerelease of AFOD. Anyone who can figure out a font, I'd like to discuss this via PM.
avatar
And, of course, even just removing the end title by hand, I have to blur stuff just enough in at least a couple of frames.
avatar
The real challenge here lies in restoring the Man with No Name's movements as he rides out of town. The best place to grab it from is the US Blu-ray, however as many sources say it's quite cropped, and by my own personal experience it's hell to try to line it up with the source I'm using.
avatar
Currently, I'm working on a clean version of the AFOD closing title shot, since there apparently isn't one available. I extracted all 193 frames, plus a single reference shot for cleanup purposes, via Blender and am removing the word "FINE" via GIMP.
avatar
if it's too good to be true... probably is not true!
avatar
avatar
negative answer, as expected...
avatar
@marin888: prices are too good to be true... so, I've just sent a mail to ask if it's possible to grab a TV directly; let's wait for an answer!
avatar
avatar
Regarding AFOD, I've just finished panning and scanning the first of what I estimate to be 5 reels for the 4:3 version. I'll start a five-day test encode as soon as I adjust the audio slightly; the sync on my initial draft wasn't quite what I wanted it to be, but it was close.
avatar
Same thing here tbh...
avatar
@Valeyard we have similar problems in the UK with some of the courier firms
avatar
avatar
Oh, I finally got a chance to view the Japanese dub of AFOD featuring Yasuo Yamada as the voice of Clint Eastwood, and I noticed that there were many of the cuts from the UK version, and then some, for a total running time of just over 92 minutes.
avatar
@Koopa Nothing so grand, just couldn't get onto fanres for a while
avatar
What happen? Did another solar eclipse take place where you are just now?
avatar
Whoa it went dark for a while!
avatar
As we approach the one-month lunarversary of the New York Times breaking the Great Hollywood Sex Scandal of 2017, what are your opinions on what's happened thus far, and who'll be the next to go?
avatar
Even in the project itself, I can't blow up the video image any further than 4K UHD.
avatar
You can handle higher resolution in the free version of Resolve, you are only limited to UHD for the final output.
avatar
Sizes above 4K UHD aren't something DaVinci Resolve can handle in its free version, but Blender can do these sizes, even up to IMAX resolution potentially.
avatar
BTW I'm presently experimenting with using Blender to make film-resolution reels for my restorations, multiplying the number of vertical millimeters in each frame by 160 for maximum effect. For the Dollars Trilogy, I'm starting with a Techniscope 2-perf negative size.
avatar
Returning to the topic of films to be restored... if someone has an old Italian DVD copy of Per qualche dollaro in più (you know, the one that's panned and scanned at Univisium aspect ratio), that'd be awesome, because it has a clean (i.e. titleless) version of the final shot.

Well, as Tevye would say, "You know, he's right! As the Good Book says, 'If you spit in the air, it lands in your face.' " Shocked
avatar
Well, some people use the ^^ as some kind of grinning eye "smiley". That's quite confusing if used otherwise ^^... Addidionally: If somebody is not able to get his references right, and the way of answering unconfusitional (that word does not exist, does it?) then maybe it is not the problem of the reader, but the writer... @MrBrown :: Holy participles, Batman! ... "How can a question be a statement?" ... Of course! When it's an interrogative! Smile (BTW, it's not a "bug", but a "suggestion" -- both of which are under the same forum heading.)
avatar
@MrBrown: The Keep from 1983 ... saw the movie in the 80s and since then was trying to find it back, but only knew the German title ...
avatar
@BronzeTitan: how can a question be a statement? I statement is more something that I don't see a bug here... I feel the '^' more confusing, especially when used to refer more than 3 entries above...
avatar
@spoRv :: The above ( ^ and ^ ^ ) is a good example of the aforementioned "confusion" happening in any case. PDB looks to be replying to MrBrown's immediate statement, which would cause "??" . Smile This subject might be a good candidate for a topic in the "Bug reports and suggestions" area.
avatar
@MrBrown: well stated MrBrown, thank you
avatar
Just out of curiosity: which project caught your attention?
avatar
Thanks to all of you! In fact, I was interested in one specific project, which made me sign up ... will follow-up with the "owner" of that one, then.
avatar
Participation is key.
avatar
It also isn't a torrent site just in case you're wondering. Smile
avatar
This is more a discussion and help community than a sharing. The sharing should be done by other communities, there are plenty where to find help getting the projects. As a general tip: be helpfull to project makers, without being too pushy... then a project maker may give you a hint, where to look at, to find the way to a certain project...
avatar
How and where depends on the project maker. We do not Share links, just Informations if a project is finished, and in the pre-finished states we talk about what is tried to accomplished, collecting suggestions, help each other, like hints where to find base sources for the projects, or other general input, like "what is the best audio source" "how to accomplish a better image/audio/colortuning" and so on.
avatar
I'm new here. So please forgive me for a potentially stupid question: how and where can I find the completed projects?
avatar
You forget the italian cut! I think it's also made by Lucas.
avatar
For example -- (1970) Lucas finishes film; (1971) WB makes minor changes for 1st theatrical release; (1978) Lucas undoes WB changes for his original film release; (1983) Lucas re-edits for TV & Beta/VHS/laserdisc release [SEN/children scene shortened]; (2004) Lucas re-edits with major CG; (2010) Lucas tweaks grading for TV and Blu-ray release ... AND, OF COURSE ... (20xx) Lucas still at it for his TV and UHD release!!
avatar
@Koopa Luath :: Can you amend "The original theatrical cut" to read "An early theatrical cut"? -- Commercial video tapes (and laserdisc) weren't of the first theatrical (WB), nor of Lucas's restored-from-WB-cut release (only avialble on film as TV broadcasts), but were of his 1st edited cut (most notable being SEN's shortened childrens scene).
avatar
@PDB: that animation is really nice! Hope to see more of this.
avatar
This guy has been working on his own bit of Metal Gear animation for the last couple of years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JbzYUhiar8
avatar
I just now made a note of it on the film's Trivia page on TV Tropes. Friggin' executive meddling...
avatar
@Bronzetitan I was hoping perhaps he had less of a say in what version TCM airs these days. Showing the 1978 reissue trailer to promote it counts as false advertising in my book. That wasn't even on the DVD or Blu Ray.
avatar
@SilverWook 26 Oct 17:02 - I don't think Lucas would allow it from such a big network; but was hoping for the best. (which, of course, didn't happen)
avatar
And there could be the specifying which of multiple shouts from a particular username (from a late-comer). For example:
avatar
maybe we should use @username when answering to some post before the last one, to avoid possible confusion... whad do you all think?

No, no ... I was answering ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ , not ^ ^ ^ . Big Grin

He means the albino lizard had wings.
avatar
^ ^ ^ You mean ... THX emerged to the surface world (actually the 1960's), changed his name to LHO, and took vengeance on OMM (also left & became JFK) for LUH?
avatar
And it's the 2004 version. F**K!
avatar
@poita, I just watched that Telecine video it was great! https://wn.com/telecine_a_brief_guide
avatar
While waiting you can get some new conspiracy theories, embedded in the JFK documents is the entire THX script if you look hard enough
avatar
avatar
Many thanks, Koopa! Let's hope TCM surprises us.
avatar
OK, Silver, everything's rigged up and all set on my end as far as I could go, and I even got a backup set to record on another DVR in case anything goes wrong on the primary DVR.
avatar
I'm still waiting to see Voltron on Blu-ray!

Stranger Things Complete First Season in fake VHS case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_conti...cfTxQMPFso

Thanks Koopa! You'll be able to tell early on. If the albino lizard has wings, it's the 2004 cut. Wink
avatar
I'll see what I can do. But I can't promise my copy will be in HD; my TV tuner can only capture so many channels, all terrestrial stations. You want an HD capture, you'll have to find someone else to grab it for the time being. But I will try to capture Thursday's broadcast and compare it with my Warner cassette of the PG-rated 1977 theatrical cut.
avatar
Is there anyone who could record THX 1138 off of Tuner Classic Movies this Thursday night? Just in case they don't show the 2004 cut.

Anyway, I'm presently working on a digital film leader in accordance with these instructions: https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3203.pdf

But seriously ... thank you for the stone-age concept of a movie projector. Think of where we all wouldn't be right now without it? Wink

^ ^ Which Jesus? "Jesus" is the first name of 261,547 males, and that's just in the U.S. (87% being spanish males)

Don't you mean "bigger" than Jesus? Big Grin
avatar
I'm older than Jesus.

Sounds like they're so subconsciously unashamed of their past they should just do what WB's doing and release everything uncensored.
