The Crow original sound mix?

27 Replies, 15120 Views

hey guys, anyone knows what would be The Crow original sound mix ? There's apparently a very cheap UK DVD in full screen with the stereo track (probably is Dolby Surround?), the current mixes on Blu-ray are crappy and not the original sound. Thanks if anyone can help. If you have an old LD, you're welcome to rip it Wink
The Crow was a digital production (for sound) if I recall, so Dolby Digital and DTS would be native for the production. I've always heard the DTS laserdisc sounds great but seems to be expensive.

Maybe Jetrell Fo knows someone who has the Cinema DTS disc...
The UK has the 2.0 Audio encoded as DD:
Dolby Digital Audio             English         224 kbps        2.0 / 48 kHz / 224 kbps

Someone stated that the italian BD has a 2.0 LPCM Track... but I don't know where that posting is...

Edit: It wasn't a Posting, it was in our shoutbox:

Couldn't see a thread specific to this little nugget of info but if anyone is interested, the Italian BD of The Crow has a LPCM 2.0 audio mix of the Dolby Spectral Recording cinema mix by all accounts.

Wow interesting. I was also wondering if a "panup" could be done using both the japanese/german discs and the US/JP4K so called remaster (they are identical), so that we get full framing Wink Here's DVDbeaver page on the film http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_r...lu-ray.htm

Since they are dirt cheap, I'm considering getting both the UK 4/3 DVD with stereo track, and the italian Blu hoping it's not a fold down.

I think that film badly needs a good presentation, and maybe only fans can do it.

What UK 4/3 DVD? Is there a 1.33:1 edition out there?

Early DVDs from Entertainment in Video (EiV) were a bit notorious. A lot of reviews describe this as pan and scan but seeing as The Crow was shot flat (1.85:1) this could well be open matte. The encode will most likely be horrendous.
Any DVD that was licensed from New Line (EiV were their distributor in the UK originally) was usually pretty good as they ported the USA DVD transfer/features although we usually lost either audio/commentary tracks or features. I remember Blade was a good early DVD. Films from other studios were a bit of a mixed bag. Deep Rising used to torment me as the video was 16:9 enhanced (and very nice) but the audio was DD2.0! In the end I got the R1 DVD which was LBX but 5.1.
Good to know. Seems as if I need to get one of that into my collection, too.

Love that film. It needs a remaster badly.
Ehr... DTS and/or AC3 laserdisc track is needed, perhaps? Big Grin

Explain what' s wrong with BD video - it seems not that bad...
Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash... Sad

To my knowledge everything out there is based on a probably 10 to 15 year old transfer and it shows its age, IMHO
