NNEDI for FFMPEG

Actually, I found a better combo for the scaling: NNEDI3 for the upscaling and Lanczos4 for the downscaling. VideoHelp's jagabo says that right here.

ETA: For my new laptop, I'm not thinking of getting anything short of an i5, and certainly nothing short of a 2nd generation processor. My i3 is fine for editing and encoding with PowerDirector 14, and it captures raw video in VirtualDub fairly well (heck, it even managed to capture great 1080i video with my new TV tuner while barely breaking a sweat, with the caveat that I couldn't have anything else open except for the Windows Task Manager), but with such problems as those spoRv encountered with his old laptop, I feel an upgrade is in order if I'm to begin work on my projects in earnest.

NNEDI3OCL gives a pretty good speed increase in some situations. Using nnedi3x_rpow2 with spline36 or spline64 depending on how sharp you want it to look works pretty good imo.

I'd probably do it if I was looking to make content for D-Theater (note that 420 is not supported by NNEDI3OCL, but 411, which was used by D-Theater, is).  Tongue

EDIT REASON: Never mind, I just looked at YV12, and it's basically the same as 420. I guess I could try that, then.

yv12 is 420.

EDIT: I see you found it out already Smile.

My old desktop (and not laptop) witha Core2Duo 1.86GHz had no problems upscaling 4X NNEDI and subsequent downscale to 1080p, so your i3 would be good enough, and faster, too!

For new CPU: go for an i7 if you can.
Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash... Sad

Good. I don't want to have to resort to a flaming hot HQ processor unnecessarily. I was thinking something more along the lines of a U-series i7, myself.
