It is possible to make custom 16:9 version combining new and old tranfers which have different framing (NEW, OLD, Hybrid):

The result image is mathematically correct. Such framing was produced because of different aspect ratio of the transfers.

Forgive my ignorance, but could this software be used to make hybrid remux as well? If so I can think of a few people that could be very interested in joining this site to learn this process

As for the old grading, VHS is open matte and higher quality than ATV.

I just found that the HK Laserdisc is open matte. Now to solve the problem of covering the subtitles.

Have you ripped the VHS? I was wondering if it could be cool to edit an IMAX version of the Matrix, switching between 4/3 and 16/9 shots depending on the shots, alas the TV version has a logo.
