Editing mkv files

Hello.

I have a project I was thinking of doing. Something simple. I've got a HD webrip (as far as I know, the film isn't available in HD beyond iTunes/streaming), along with a DVD of the version released in Japan (which has an exclusive scene). I'd like to upscale the Japan-exclusive scene and add it into the HD print. Then I'd colour correct the scene, and sync the audio from the longer DVD version.

The HD version is an .mkv. Which video editor would be optimal for editing the additional scene in, without reducing the quality of the mkv (if possible)?

You can probably use TMPGEnc Smart Renderer for it, but you'll have to play around to get the settings right I think.

That's just for the video. For the audio you may want to edit the transition by hand in an editor, to make it sound good. Possibly you can combine that too with the TMPGEnc Smart Renderer so you don't have to reencode the entire audio, but you'd have to play around.

As for the audio, I plan on syncing the audio from the longer DVD cut, as a backup. From memory the audio on the webrip is overdubbed.
