X-Men 2 (X2) NetFlix Master

11 Replies, 7089 Views

NetFlix are streaming a remastered X2 which may or may not be the basis for the UHD release later this year. It looks to be cleaner/more detailed, with that recent '4K' look that many of the recent Fox catalogue titles have been receiving. The colour grade is different to the existing blu-ray also, so it will be interesting to see if this translates to the UHD also.

I capped the 23.976 stream and gave it an RGB regrain to help with the compression artifacts. The final encode is blu-ray compliant and syncs perfectly to the blu-ray (no dropped or extra frames). It will fit onto a BD-25 (just!)

Thanks to Jetrell Fo I am pleased to include the original DTS Cinema Theatrical Mix! The files were converted to usable 44.1kHz wavs in foobar, all other conversions were done with eac3to. The audio was synced in Audacity and a full-bitrate Coherent Acoustics file was encoded with ffdcaenc.

No other tracks/subs are included but remember the project is 100% synced to the blu so other tracks can be easily muxed in.

Container:  MKV 1080p (21.9GB), Chapter stops as per official Blu Ray
Video: x264, Blu Ray Compliant, Average Bitrate 22Mb/s
Audio: DTS 5.1, Full Bitrate 1.5kb/s

Thanks again to Jetrell Fo for supplying the DTS iso files.

The project is up and ready to go, PM for the link (active members only).
Nice! I didn't even know a UHD release was planned later this year. So I would assume the other old ones will be given the UHD remaster treatment as well.
Ach! I have issues with the dts track. It sounds terrible on my receiver, at least on the front center channel. I guess, since it's Blu-ray sync friendly, I'll have to do some remux.
Sorry to hear that Beber. I ran the burned BD through my set up and it played fine. I'll check it out when I get a minute
I've converted the Cinema DTS track to FLAC and added it to the project folder for anyone who is having trouble with the DTS file on the MKV.

I am confused as to why it is only your own remuxing that sounds better to you than what others provide? Maybe it's your system and not the hard work of others that needs adjusting.

Wink

I'm glad to see this ready to go. I got your pm and I'll be downloading today. I had no issue sharing the cinema DTS with an active user here for a project that others are interested in seeing come to fruition.

Cheers to ya zoidberg!!!

Dude, have I asked for anything? 'Cause it seems that I came up with my own solution. It's not my remuxing that sounds better, it's the fact that I remuxed the track from the actual Blu-ray. What can I tell you? It's the 2nd time that happens: first it was the Alien Resurrection theatrical dts on Sporv's Fundamental and now this one. Never had any issue with the theatrical dts on Harmy's Respecialized Star Wars or Team Blue's version, never had issues with the theatrical dts on the 35mm scan of True Lies or The Matrix, or Jurassic Park. I can only suppose the method used was not the same for Alien 4 and X2.
The other projects you mentioned Beber used DTS-HD Master lossless encodes. My project and spoRv's used a DTS Coherent Acoustics lossy encode which it would seem your receiver doesn't particularly like.
It's moot now as I've included the synced Cinema DTS as a flac file.

And is that "DTS Coherent Acoustics" different from any regular dts track from any Blu-ray or DVD? 'Cause these latter play fine. Also, the symptoms are not the same:
- on Alien 4, it played totally mute.
- on X2, it plays in multichannel, I have the rear effects and the whole nine yards, except that there's like a crispy, crunching annoying sound on the center front channel.

Also, the Alien 4 track didn't work with my previous receiver either, a Denon. Now I have a Pioneer.

And thanks for the FLAC now, 'cause that works just like a charm!
