As anyone worked on Solo yet? I was trying to watch it and I think the picture needs a lot of work.
Putting aside the quality of the movie, the video is absolutely the worst looking movie that I have seen in a long time. I'm fine with the movie looking dark, that was one of the common complaints, but everything else about the picture looks terrible. The blacks are gray and muddy, there is next to no contrast, the colors are terribly muted even when they are meant to stand out (blues or reds) and there is a horrible vignetting across most of the film.
It's almost as they took the RAW files out of the camera and did nothing with them. I expect that of youtube videos but not a multi million dollar film. Even one with as much trouble as this one had.
Even without changing the colors, some small tweaks like adjusting black levels, using curves, upping saturation, shadow work, etc, can make a big difference. You can get a much better picture.

Even if I have not watched it since, what? 20 years? I remember it not a masterpiece, yet another scifi flick you "have" to watch!
I like your adjustments, still I wonder if LD or DVD has different color grading...

Lol. What? I guess that title was confusing? This is the Star Wars Solo from this year not the Mario Van Peebles one from 1996. I'll add 2018 to the title.

Well, without year and Star Wars in the title, and the fact I've read lately a review of the 1996 film, to me, Solo could be only that movie, alone! (pun intended... solo=only or alone)

I have to agree, it says Solo and the pics are without a doubt from Solo. You've at least seen trailers for the film right? lol just giving you a hard time spoRv.
I like what you've done PDB, i was going to have a look at it too and mess with it. It has the potential to look really nice, sad what they did to the color timing, or at least the dark washed out look they gave it.

Theatrically, this was a mess. I'm sure I wasn't alone in hoping the Blu-ray (and/or 4k) release would fix the problem. Alas, it was not to be. Fortunately, PDB is on the job!
Much better, my friend! If you end up taking it on, is there any chance it could include the Atmos track from the 4k disc? That would be the ultimate!

I agree and your changes are an improvement. But then, the movie is hardly anything to write home about. Doubt I'll be watching it a second time, ever.
