Fortress 1992 Spanish Blu Ray?

11 Replies, 1580 Views

So I was looking for Fortress with Christopher Lambert on Blu Ray and saw that the US and German blu rays are out of print and outrageously priced everywhere I look. There is a Spanish blu ray but I'm not sure about the quality. It's really the only decently priced option I have. I'm pretty sure it's a bootleg though. Should I take a chance on it or get the dvd instead?
i just watched that recently, it needs a proper remaster the blurays are crap.

I don't think we'll see a proper remaster anytime soon sadly. 1993's Gunmen with Christopher Lambert and Mario Van Peebles is one that doesn't even have a blu ray and the dvd is only in full frame. That's a fun little movie I never hear anyone talk about. Not an A+ movie by any means but still c'mon. I know there are much worse movies that leaped from vhs to blu ray and get fantastic transfers
For me as a kid, that was an A+ movie alright! LOL
Looking at blu-ray.com, it's BD-R release an appears to be a direct port of the US release by Echo Bridge

The German version is slightly better cause its not over saturated but both have a flat washed out video look to them.

German version is also the unrated cut (uses laserdisc footage to restore the unrated shots)
Iirc, there are many releases from Spain that could be considered as bootlegs.

It's a whole minefield. technically in Spain, they are not bootlegs due to some legal grey area that's only applicable to Spanish law (hence why they are sold freely and commercially)
I own the German version and can recommend it. Overall it's a better transfer than the US one. Although it's the full length uncut version the extended segments have been taken from the UK laserdisc so the drop in quality is noticeable there. I've never seen the Spanish disc but personally I'd avoid buying any Spanish Blu Rays online; I've yet to see one that isn't a BD-R bootleg.
Program material is recorded on the other side of this disc...
