South Park 201 uncensored 5.1 surround audio idea
#1
I looked around to see if anyone has made this already and couldn’t find anything. I don’t have the software to see if this would work so I’m just typing my idea here on how I would do it if I could.

South Park episode 201 original had its audio censored. An uncensored stereo mix was leaked to the internet afterwards you can read about it here.

https://lostmediawiki.com/South_Park_%22...com;_2010)

When the episode was released on bluray, the audio was in 5.1 surround but still censored. I figured we can take the dialog from the uncensored leaked stereo audio and use it to replace the center channel in the 5.1 TrueHD track on the bluray. The uncensored audio is 16bit, 48hz FLAC and the bluray’s audio is TrueHD 16bit, 48hz so I assume the quality shouldn’t be that much off from each other.
Now, I don’t know how for sure you would isolate the dialog from the uncensored but if I had to take a guess, I would run it through some kind of matrix Dolby surround software, if that is even a thing. That would put all the dialog into the center channel. If you could somehow make that center channel its own wav file, it could then be slapped over the center channel of the bluray and then be used to encode a whole new 5.1 TrueHD track, no?

Matrixing software can't create a real 5.1 mix with isolated elements; it'd be like unbaking a cake. Izotope RX has good dialogue isolation though.

Thanks. Never heard of Izotope RX. I never really tried doing something like this before.

Here is the link to what I was able to export with Izotope RX if anyone wants to try recreating an uncensored 5.1 mix. If you need the original censored 5.1 file PM me.

That's actually pretty decent results.
PM me the 5.1, I'll see what I can do.

So the TrueHD track from the BD is actually just a lossy encode. The uncensored version is a higher bitrate, and sounds better to my ears. That combined with the fact that nothing really happens in the surrounds anyways, I just went and synced the straight uncensored audio to the BD video. I'm sure somebody has probably already done this, but it was easier to just sync it then to hunt down someones old project.
Anyways, if anyone wants it go ahead and shoot me a PM.

The TrueHD is a lossy encode? Is it possible I screwed something up when ripping the audio?

Probably not. It's not that uncommon for studios to take a lossy master and just re-encode it to a lossless format. I suspect that's what happened here.

Ah ok. Thanks for giving it a shot. I guess you can ignore the PM I just sent you. Didn't think studios would stoop that low with something so main stream.
