Quote:While NINJA was shot entirely on 35mm in 1984, the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials, scripts and treatments going missing.
That's pretty insane they managed to put something together based purely on soundless footage. I might have to pick this up when it comes out.
Is this what they call "old new stock"? Love it. A new movie from 1984. What's not to like?

Makes me think ... since this obviously will not get a proper photochemical color timing now... sounds like we have work to do!

Getting a strong Miami Connection vibe from this.

And potential kudos the restoration team for keeping the "new" soundtrack sounding like a film from the early 80's. I wonder if they used vintage microphones and sound recording equipment?
Wish they did Grizzly II like this. Can't stand the Revenge cut with those horrible new scenes (one aerial view in the concert scene was pulled from some festival with modern cars for ships sake!) and badly done intro with the CG blood!
Well, this looks awesome.
Has Devious been complete yet?
They had no script and no sound. So they had to create the plot, story and dialog from nothing.

I'm afraid they took a low budget 80s film and intentionally upped the camp factor, which was probably not the original intention. Fake camp kind of sucks.
The thing is there's an audience for this kind of thing, a mix of fans who like the old school for what it is plus those who watch 'ironically'. The restoration has somewhat cynically leaned into that.
The simple truth is lost films will be completely rebuilt and released on blu before Bad Taste, Braindead, etc lol
