IMAX Enhanced on Disney+

46 Replies, 5983 Views

I've only had a very quick look at Iron Man to compare the open matte version with the IMAX Enhanced version and it would seem there's now a need for Hybrid versions.  Rolleyes

The opening title sequence has more info top and bottom on the open matte but the first IMAX scene that has more info on both sides and top & bottom.

Anyone else checked different versions out yet?

PS I tried to take screenshots but I guess the DRM is blocking PrtSc.

If you mean different versions of Iron man, no.
But Avengers Infinity War & Endgame, they´re "imax enhanced" through the majority of the movie (skipped through some sequences), if not the entire movie.

I'm just seeing "hotlink expired" messages.
Program material is recorded on the other side of this disc...

So they went the 1.90:1 AR route even for non-digital IMAX native productions? They could've filled the 1.78:1 AR.

I'm guessing they wanted to have it be consistent for all the movies.
Fact is:
digital IMAX is around 1.90:1
open matte UHD is around 1.78:1
DCI real 4K is 4096x2160 = around 1.90:1
UHD 4K is 3840x2160 = around 1.78:1

So AFAIK they released the IMAX full DCI 4K 4096x2160, took the center to get 2.40:1 version DCI 4096x1716 (downscaled to 3840x16xx for UHD-BD), and cropped one (or both) sides of imax to get the open matte 1.78:1 1920x1080 (or are there also UHD open matte around?)

But the Guardians 3D Blu-rays are in 1.78:1 IMAX on some scenes. Dr. Stange 3D, too.
You mean consistent in the 2D realm on Disney+?

Do you mean open matte 1.78:1 has full vertical info while IMAX 1.90:1 is like a "letterboxed" version of it?
