Léon: The Professional 5.1

61 Replies, 4149 Views

Does anyone have the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track from older Blu-ray releases of Léon / Leon Director's Cut? The 4K/remastered BD only comes with Atmos or 7.1.

Thanks
I have the Optimum BD but it doesn't sync to the UHD. Seamless branching discs are always a pain. It also has a 2.0 track which I was interested in because the extended version never had a 5.1 track theatrically.
AFAIR theatrical cut was only Dolby Stereo, hence any release with more than 4(.1) channels should be thought as remix. Or not?
Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash... Sad

Unfortunately I think the Optimum BD 2.0 track is just a folddown of the 5.1.
I have it, at least the extended cut, it's 96khz and sounds very nice. But it doesn't sync to the remaster as is. I also have the extended cut on Superbit Ntsc DVD with DTS 5.1, Dolby 5.1 and 2.0.

This one might be worth getting.thought the bass was way over done in the Atmos

Actually, Optimum BD's 2.0 track is a dual mono - not sure if native or just a downmix of 5.1 and somebody just ended up pushing the wrong button Smile

How do you know the extended cut didn't have 5.1 track theatrically? Also - why, if the original release already had a native 5.1 mix. I am quite interesed in the history of Leon audio mixes and did a little research - even here, on this very forum.  And a member of this forum @SpaceBlackKnight had this to say about the audio mixes for Leon:

"Both US and French/International cuts of Leon were a 5.1 native mix in Dolby Digital, but also had alternate Dolby Surround LRCS mixes done for theaters not equipped with DD and for TV/VHS versions. The US version also had a theatrical DTS 5.1 mix, but I don't think that ever had a release anywhere not even a DTS LD. The DTS track that debuted on the Superbit DVD and spanned up to the 2009 BD is said to be different than the theatrical DTS, probably optimized for home theater systems, but is also said to be vastly superior overall to the messy, reverberated Atmos mix on the MI4K BD and the UHDs."

(Once I met Besson in person briefly and had a chance to talk to him a little, but it was before I got interested in the subject, or I would have deifinitely asked him about it Big Grin).

Yeah seems to be the case. Because it's release was approaching the mid 90s, I assumed it would be 5.1. But looking at the end credits it does have the Dolby Stereo logo.

Appears to be the only way to get the 2.0 surround mix!

Was the Extended / International / Integral / "Director's" Cut the version that was screened theatrically outside of US?

My library has the old blu-ray so I'll sync it to the 4k.
