Back in November 2021, Disney officially released the IMAX Enhanced versions of 13 out of 25 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films to Disney+ for subscribers to watch at home (at the time). For years, the only way people were able to see these versions were to either experience them at IMAX theaters or import foreign 3D home media releases that often contained the IMAX transfers for their 3D versions. For the fans of the format who have been clamoring for home video access to these coveted transfers, it would surely seem like a victory, right? With no foreseeable plans to release these versions physically, offering them with their lackluster Dolby Atmos mixes, and streaming them at barely acceptable bitrates, one must wonder if the IMAX Enhanced releases were worth it in the end...

Faneditor and fan conservator kidjupiter92 has taken it upon himself to create a more suitable and enjoyable way to re-experience the MCU in what many see as their best presentation. As the first of his ongoing MCU IMAX Collection, kidjupiter92 presents Black Panther - IMAX Edition.

Video: Black Panther - IMAX Enhanced Version was ripped directly from Disney+ in 720p HD. The IMAX sequences were then upscaled to 1080p HD to be presented alongside the original 1080p Blu-ray transfer. The 1080p transfer was taken from the 2018 blu-ray, color corrected using the D+ transfer as a color reference to remove the blanket teal tint present, and overlaid upon the D+ scan to present the best transfer possible.

DTS-HD MA: English 7.1 (Sourced from the Blu-ray release)
DD+: English 5.1 (Mixdown from DTS-HD MA 7.1 mix)

There is already a native(non-upscaled) 1080p IMAX version out. Why are you even bothering with the 720p one?

Even 2160p IMAX is available download

1) AnyStream couldn't access the 1080p versions of any from Disney+ (but had no problems extracting 1080p and 2160p from HBO Max fine), and instead of me simply giving up, I figured I'd work with I got.

I'm not sure if it's allowed to post a link here, but all Disney+ IMAX Enhanced titles can be easily found on HDencode in 2160p HDR and/or DV (send me PM if you need any help finding them).

They come with the original streaming audio DD+ 5.1-Atmos 48kHz 768kbps. Sometimes they also have a custom version with HDR/DV Profile 8 and the UHD-BD DTHD 7.1-Atmos.

Since I'm a complete OCD , I'm making my own custom MKVs for these Disney+ IMAX Enhanced versions with all available tracks in 3 video options each: HDR, DV and HDR+DV Profile8. For instance, here's my MKV track descriptions:

ps: I remove Dial. Norm. for all tracks, except for DTS-HD MA, which is not yet possible. So I transcode them to FLAC and include both versions for completeness. LOL I also reposition all PGS subtitles (except forced ones) to be exactly 15 pixels inside frame.

I was planning on doing the same thing, although why have separate HDR and DV versions when you also have a P8 HDR & DV version?

Also, it would be nice to include a BEQ'd version of the 7.1 audio.

Yeah, a BEQ'd version would awesome! But unfortunately I don't know how to do that.

Not much sense there, as I said, mostly an OCD stuff

But there's indeed some archive/playing safe purpose there. For instance, the HDR/DV plays HDR if you don't have DV, but in case you do have DV, it may not always be off switchable depending on your hardware.

Many times I rather have pure HDR and be able to fiddle with settings more freely than DV allows.

Currently, on my viewing rooms I'm using LG CX OLED displays and DV is mostly locked, so there's very little one can try on discs with low luminance. HDR can be improved with the display Dinamic Tone Mapping. On the opposite end, discs with torch mode can also be better tammed in HDR only mode.

I'm officially cancelling this project, seeing as there's no real need for it.
